How vector graphics can make your designs more poweful

Time for a quick lunchtime post about vectors. Vector graphics allow you to represent a picture as a series of shapes such as squares and polygons who are defined by mathematical equations. At first they might sound a little tricky to use, but once you’ve given them a try you’ll see that it’s just as easy to create impressive looking elements with only a little more work. The benefit of creating your graphics using a vector package are several… First, you never need to worry about how good your image will look if you want to resize it (especially for print media such as a magazine or a poster) or even more practically, a larger screen area. Traditionally most designers who use vectors will swear by Adobe Illustrator, but given the cost of the full package why not spring for something open-source and free like Inkskape? Click here for 30 tutorials on how you can use Inkscape to get rolling on the vector highway now ;)
