Blimp – A mashup between the Bing API, PageGlimpse, YUI and TweetMeme with thumbnail previews of results

Hey all. A few weeks ago I decided to experiment with the Bing API (provided by Microsoft). The first thing I noticed with it was that I wasn’t completely blown away with what the Bing.com interface offers us – we’re essentially getting results that are at most on a par with what Google currently provide so I was hoping I would get something extra to blow me away (sadly there was little more past their homepage). I thought to myself..in the age of social networking..surely I can improve on what people get to see in their search results..even if just a little bit :) The results of my efforts is "Blimp". It’s a javascript mashup between the Bing API, PageGlimpse (a service that offer thumbnails of any webpage), YUI (for the hover over panels) and TweetMeme (who provide a count on the number of people who have tweeted about a particular URL). It’s relatively fast and you can opt to not see the TweetMeme ratings/share button next to your search results if you would prefer. To try out Blimp, check out one of the links below
